ironically?
To all my Christian Friends on Chess.com

I wish Merry Christmas to ALL my friends, regardless of their beliefs. What most people in the US practise is, after all, largely based on pagan traditions, but that is not the point.
It's good to have the spirit of christmas, the best and true part of it, the humanity, goodwill, etc. at least for one day a year. (we can always be hateful the other 364 - as some folks seem to practice)
P'shaw. The days of celebrating the solstice are behind us. What most people in the U.S. practice this time of year is a peculiar hybrid of consumerism and sloth. Hell, we're too lazy to even be hedonists.
Most folks are not away from screens long enough to notice the length of days.

and they cant say holidays cause that made up of Holy + days!
"Primary (pre-Christian) meaning is not possible to determine, but probably it was "that must be preserved whole or intact, that cannot be transgressed or violated," and connected with Old English hal (see health) and Old High German heil "health, happiness, good luck" (source of the German salutation Heil). Holy water was in Old English."

There is no need to believe in a god or gods to have a use for the word "holy". It simply means that one wants to keep the thing in question undisturbed.
And "seasons greetings" doenst work b/c its the Christmas season.
It's the winter season. And you know what's the reason for the season? Axial tilt.

Shut up

so its a special season b/c we celebrate snow?
Winter celebrations were born out of a desire to have some light in the darkness, some cheer through the long cold period. Hence Winter solstice holidays, to eat the food that has been saved for winter, and hence traditions like the Yule log.

Shut up
Well, thank you for that well thought-out "relevant, helpful, and nice" comment.

I am being nice and helpful to the whole community,as i'm giving them a huge favor by telling you to shut up.

hehe, well said Mark.

The Christian part of Christmas is difficult to understand/accept for those who do not share the same beliefs. The commercial part still relevant to those who don't. I wish a happy holiday experience (Hanukah, Kwanza, whatever) to those who don't know or accept Jesus and a blessed time of joyful rembrance to those who do. Peace on earth and goodwill toward (all) mankind.

I guess Ziryab is right.

I was simply reinforcing bigpoison's observation. In any case, after five days of dancing naked in the snow to celebrate the return of the sun, I had a merrie Xmas with bourbon, Canadian whiskey, Viognier, Pinot Noir, and enough food to render me senseless.

Hmmm.. Nobody can have anything against Christ. The man existed, did good and was liked. He deserves to be remembered and respected, by all people independent of their belief. You can be atheist and celebrate christmas without any problem.
It's a Festivus miracle!
