TOP 10

It all gets a bit silly now.

Do we have to wait till the first player reaches 5000 points before chess.com is going to close accounts of the chess gods that use chess engines for their anonymous reign of fake fame?

Let's be honest how many chess player in the top 10 are for real?

They could easily be counted on one hand.

Well, I dont know about that. Certainly the top 5 could be counted on one hand....

Tricklev

Top 1 can be counted with only your pinkie.

Discussion of cheating is not allowed on the forums. The place for that is here: http://www.chess.com/groups/view/cheating-forum .

JTLindskogHageman

write down the names of the top 10 and see in one year which accounts have been closed, darn, patience is a virtue!

Virtue is for wimps

I agree that this could be a problem, but i think that everybody is honest enough not to cheat, for their own personal pleasure. I dont think very many people do it.

JTLindskogHageman

Yep Reb, scapegoat hunting cos they're easy to spot and not hiding in a maze of electronic haze.

If that's the criticism, what is the solution? It is often easy to criticise, but much more difficult to be constructive. A challenge for all of us?

JTLindskogHageman

Maybe not many people do it but you will find the cheaters a the top, i mean it doesnt make sense to cheat and become last. Therefore if the gold goes to a cheater and the silver too its a bit bitter for the fair player the receive the bronze but then again he could also cheat by painting his medal gold.

I think the scores of players who've been banned for cheating would be surprised to hear you say that they "let the cheats slide" --

Just thought I'd get my two cents before they lock this thread... Now quick, lock it!

There's a "cheating forum" especially for people who want to spend their days debating this fascinating topic... It reminds me of those plexiglass smoking rooms they have at the airport in Vegas (*edit -- maybe it was Salt Lake City) ... people happily choking each other to death with their toxic fumes while the rest of the population walks by shaking their heads in sad bemusement.

Those smoking rooms are found at airports all around the world. Enter one and you don't need to smoke - just inhale......

Last time I checked, most of the banned cheaters were below 2100 chess.com ratings.

If you think cheating is limited to top rated players, you're delusional. Of course it's possible that there are cheaters amongst the top players too-in part because they must be using engines to beat other engines-but that doesn't mean cheating is confined to the top 10 or even top 200.

they look under 2100 because their ratings fall after we ban them and they lose on time...

Phobetrix

....and please note that the current fantastic record crossing 3000 points occurred after a win against a player that chess.com had banned to be cheating.

I resent this forum.

CHEATERS ARE EVERYWHERE, ESPECIALLY IN THE TOP 10, CONSIDERING YORKMAN, OUACHITA, MRTSUNABIRSIN ALL FORMER NUMBER ONES YOU CAN SAY THE CHEATERS ARE AT THE TOP, THE OTHERS WERE JUST CAUGHT ON THEIR WAY. CLEVER CHEATER CHEAT GOOD AND GET TO THE TOP WHILE THE SILLY ONES GET CAUGHT EASILY. JUST LIKE SPORTS YOU FIND DRUG ABUSE AT THE TOP.

A few weeks ago I saw a couple of players rated abvoe 3000 Glicko, but today the top players have about 2900 Glicko. If they honestly play at the 2900 level, I wonder who's hiding behind their nick. Topalov ? Ivanchuk ? Carlsen ? Anand ? Wow, those chesstars are here !

Offcourse they are here! Is there any better place to play at all?

As for cheating if anyone can beat me obviously they are using Rybka 5 at least but Ill play anyway! :)

As for higher rated players be the ones cheating its not exactly like that, on other servers most players caught cheating are mostly rated between 1500-2100, maybe because they get ban before they reach the 2500? :)

JTLindskogHageman

just think of the fact if those big shots are here with a little help of Rybka they might be able to develop new tactics or am i wrong?

The real shame about Ouachita is although a lot of people didn't like him
he wrote some of the funniest and cleverest posts.  Some of them made me laugh out loud.  I bet he was a legitimate 2000-2200 player.
