Top chess movies u need to see?

The three that immediately come to mind are:

Life of a King

Searching for Bobby Fischer

Pawn Sacrifice

Pawn Sacrifice is garbage. The writing is terrible, the plot is all over the place and Fischer is misrepresented. Definitely Searching for Bobby Fischer.

Anymore which includes games etc ?

The only other chess movie I can think of is the Bobby Fischer documentary. I believe it's on YouTube and really good. That is one of the biggest problems with Pawn Sacrifice to me, it really has nothing to do with chess. Searching for Bonny Fischer handles it really well, so that even if you don't know how to play chess, it's interesting. But if you do, it includes actual games and strategy discussion throughout.

There's also a chess movie on Netflix with Cuba Gooding, Jr. Worst movie I've ever seen. Chess movies just aren't done very often or very well.

The chess movie you're thinking of is Life of a King. Here's a chess.com write-up of it: https://www.chess.com/news/life-of-a-king-cuba-gooding-jr-stars-in-chess-movie-4161

Movies need to appear attractive to the general public in order to bring in enough people to pay for it at the box office. I think that's why actual games aren't included often.

There is a 1978 German film titled something like Swartz und Weiss Wei Tage und Nächte. I haven't finished it, but the chess scenes are intense.

I would strongly recommend the short film "Chess Fever" made in 1925, starring Chess world champion José Raúl Capablanca.

I would also recommend "Geri's Game"...

Both are very funny and very good...

Films with more intelligence, depth or humor than the usual schlock found in "chess movies."  In chronological order:

Note: the link to Geri's Game with the correct French accordion music track is found here, not in a previous post.

"Fresh". With Samuel L. Jackson. Well, he participates on every movie made on Earth anyway.
