If you're talking about this game: http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=7512602, it's probably because he loses his queen no matter what and didn't feel like playing on. Best is 20. .. Nxf7, 21. Rxe7 Kxe7, 22. Bxf7 at which white has won a queen for a rook with more active pieces

please note that the player that resigned is the one who stands to gain the queen hatoblue, how can he do this if he has the advantage.

Because #1 spot is reserved for me.
Maybe his wife was giving birth or something and he wanted to be there.Or he was about to miss his last bus home.

i recently had a look at a game involving a top rated player and he resigned whereas he had the game totally in his grasp. could someone explain to me why he could have done this? i find it very strange to say the least. if you wana see wot im talking about check out bapooya(2479) vs siahkal(2158) ending on the 18th June 2008 with 20 moves completed.
also can someone explain to me why the player with the highest rating is ranked #2 and not #1?
