It's a complicated question, but my preparation usually follows the following format:
1. Before the tournament: I "get in the zone"... I play lots of first person shoot-em-ups and watch war movies...the WWII black and white movies featuring Richard Widmark always ensure the correct frame of mind. I eat raw meat for breakfast and scourge myself for my previous failings as a player and a human being.
2. On the day of the tournament: Final preparation: I strap on my combat equipment (all bought second hand from various army surplus shops) and have a good five minutes getting my "game face" ready.... find a secluded or well sound proofed area (you don't want the neighbours thinking you're mad) and scream loudly whilst contorting your face with aggression (it's important at this time to keep eye contact with yourself in the mirror... backing down to yourself at this moment would definitely be detrimental to your confidence). Some deep breathing to follow then calms the nerves and I'm out the door.
3. During the game: I like to set up my camping stove beside the board (mostly plastic utensils to avoid complaints about noise and distraction) for in game hot drinks and bacon sandwiches. I place a large hunting knife next to my score sheet for personal protection (all chess players are secretly serial killers... take no chances, seriously dude).
4. After the tournament: this is where preparation for the next tournament starts, so no slacking. Having collected my cheque and trophy (if any), I leave the tournament hall immediately (the other players are not to be trusted) and return home for a session with the mirror, and woe betide me if I didn't win.... the frightening guy in the mirror is going to make my life a living hell.
My methods are not to every one's taste but use whichever bits appeal most.
Hello All..I want to ask what should we do to prepare our self for tournaments.
