My experience (in no way vast) is that bots' ratings aren't calibrated in the same way as real players. My rating is usually around 1050ish, I can usually beat bots of 1200 & 1300 and start to struggle against bots with ratings of 1400+.
Playing against real opponents, I struggle to beat anyone much over 1150.
I'd also say that if you want to see your rating increase then, in addition to playing and analysing your games, you will need to study some openings, tactics and strategies for pawn structure and end games. However - although your elo will increase, you may find that your frustration and dissatisfaction when you make mistakes and lose games won't change. But - the more you learn about the game and the more you explore its complexity and subtleties - the more you will be engaged. But this forum is full of people at all levels (myself included) who become disheartened by a seeming lack of progress. Sometimes it just seems like you go 15 steps forward and 14 steps back...
So I have been doing pretty much bots for a few weeks, mostly playing Martin to get to know the game itself, but also practicing some openings. I have beaten some of the 1000elo + bots, but when I started playing people I came to the crushing realization that I'm still just a puny 250-300 elo player that has a looooooong way to go.
Am I able to get to a reasonable higher elo by just knocking down some games against people each day, or do I need to study openings and crush puzzles daily?
