Don’t be so focused on trying to get to 2200. Rating increases with time. You can only make it harder for yourself to reach it.

He means the psychological whatever-it-is-called that happens close to the next 100 ELO. For example if you're 799, you might play worse in you're next game, because it's on your mind that you are about to reach the next level.

Ah, I see. Thank you for your comment, but don’t worry too much - I’m so surprised at my recent form that the “expectation” of reaching 2200 doesn’t quite exist yet in my mind. The “road to 2200” posts started as a joke when I hit 2100 and didn’t immediately dip below it!

Hey all! The road to 2200 took another step forward today with a pretty clean Sicilian game. Ironically, I won material through a very ponziani-style pawn sacrifice for a queen fork.
My opponent was right not to resign earlier, as if we had simplified all the pawns off there’s every chance he would’ve held the draw rook/knight vs rook (and indeed may have won on time - it’s 10/0 after all!), but I think he made the right choice throwing in the towel when he did: even the best move for him in the final position would’ve given away another pawn.
With this win, I’m just 15 points away from a milestone that wasn’t anywhere on my radar for 2026: 2200! I think if I do achieve it, I’ll switch my focus to blitz for a little while to try and work on my rating there, instead.
