Whining git. Either pay the pittance they're asking, or if like me you are too mean, accept that paying would get you something you're not getting for free and that if this weren't so very few people would be paying. What world do you live in where if you pay for something you are no better off than if you didn't - and why would you ever part with your money if this were so?
Unfair!

*sigh* If you think it's unfair, you can always buy a membership to 'even the playing field' and 'give you an advantage over free members.' It' sjust a game in the end. Grow up and play the game.

Sports stadiums are all built to standards set by the authorities of the sport so they contain no surprises for football or baseball teams and so "home team advantage" is more a myth than reality.
Then I guess you don't watch NFL football. The crowds can get so loud in those stadiums that the visiting offensive team can't even hear the quarterback's signals. It's a definite advantage for the home team.

For the few quid a month that membership costs yes, you do get a few little perks. These things that you have mentioned (more conditional move lines and auto vacation) are NOT advantages in the actual game. They are not a part of the game of chess, just a couple of nice little features used on the website.
I have to agree with others on here that have suggested that you are probably playing too many consectutive games or are not logging on frequently enough if these 'added extras' are considered to be essential to you being able to play the game.
It really isn't a lot of money for membership. The price of a pint here in London costs more than a months worth of membership.

Andrew

I think you would have had a much stronger argument if you brought in the use of the game explorer. But still, its not like any of this is secret
1. If you are a free member or premium you get vacation, and if you need it because you are not able to make your moves of a regular basis then you are playing too many moves. Primium members who go on vacation every coupple days to prevent timing out are rude in my opinion, and should play fewer games. But it is their choice, and I do not find it unfair
2. I think conditional moves hurt ones ability to play chess because it takes away the second or third look once the first or second move in a line is made. Perhaps only being able to make a single condidtional line is actually an advantage

I think the biggest problem with saying it is unfair is that then you could also say
who ever buys more expensive running shoes has an unfair advantage is races, or the more expensive raquet in tennis, or the newer/better equitment in any sport.

Now you've done it...He's probably making a mad dash to the running and tennis forums with his arguments.
...
Actually, I guess I did it too. I'm sure he's at the NFL football forum, also.

haha I am not going to say he does not have a point, but if that is truly his view then he should be consistant when looking at other things too

There are some things money can't buy (An advantage on chess.com isn't amongst those things), for everything else, there's MasterCard!

Hey......I don't believe there is any special advantage is there 2 premium members as compared 2 free membership on d grounds u mentioned becoz conditional moves might help u 2 complete d game early. But as u said, u don't remember d game plan n strategies becoz not able 2 make multiple conditional moves but if u take a look we also have note pad there wherein u could write ur goals n ideas with respect 2 specific games......
I believe paid membership has coolest features of unlimited tactics trainer n Chess.com Video galleries which has awesome collection of videos. ..but these members have paid 4 that so I don't think that's unfair with us....using free membership. Ultimately chess.com has 2 find some way or the other 2 make money. ....nothing is free in real world

Yes, you stated the "bottom line" quite well. And as far as "Dr. Frank" is concerned, you may be a very good man but being a minister means that you have a bit of illogic in your mind. Renounce God in any form and I can almost guarantee that your rating will increase 300 rating points.
What are you havering about?

1. If a player wants to make more than one line of conditional moves he must be a member to do so.
I'm sorry, how is this an advantage?
Its very simple. When you have a lot of games going you cannot always remember what you plan to do in each game. By using the conditional moves feature, I put in the main variations of the lines I am aiming for. By allowing my opponent to do this but not me, he has a slight advantage.
So, basic members don't have the "notes" tab, either?
The humanity!
Edit: Apologies to the alphanumeric Spaniard who beat me to it.

New plan:
Lets all agree with the Belgian pretending to be a pretty 13 year old girl!
At least she changed her avatar photo, after getting that crick in her back fixed.
Shoulders back, all else out front, indeed.
She now has a demure replacement photo, thankfully.

Belgium? I'll have an ice-cold amstel beer please whilst trying to sort out what's fair or unfair here.

U say that I have an illogical mind. I cannot prove that God exists but u cannot prove that God does not exist so who is the illogical one?
I am a premium member and I get vacation time. It helps me because sometimes I don't get time to play.
