Unjustified pride

I have recently being playing chess again after a break of about 30 years - I was never a good player but I enjoyed it back in the day. Today I managed to beat the chess.com computer at level 5 without making any blunders! Now I know for most of you that doesn't seem much of an achievement but I am really chuffed ☺. I know pride comes before a fall so I better be careful in my next game...

Thanks for taking the time to comment ☺

Don't worry about him, Trotsky. Every post I click on he's there, commenting something rude, insulting, and negative.

I think that's awesome. Improvement always is. Where were you before your 30-year break? Were you a serious player? I'm curious how much skill you think you lost during your time off or if it was like riding a bike and it's something you never forget?

Improvement always makes you feel good.  Just don't become overconfident.

Thanks TRextastic - it wouldn't really be an online forum without the likes of puppet-master .  I was never a really serious player. I was most competitive whilst playing at school, there was a very active chess group. When I left school I got into other boardgames and chess sort of just slid away. I haven't forgotten the very basics but my pattern recognition is very rusty and it takes me a while to mentally check each move and that is only thinking at most two moves ahead. I keep kicking myself over the really simple things I am missing in the tactics trainer - but I know with practice I can improve. I don't think I have the capacity to be a very good player but if i can get to the level of holding my own at a local chess club I will be happy. I am still only two weeks into my newfound enthusiasm so there is plenty still to brush up on and learn.

Thanks for the advice SilentKnight - going to keep plugging away against the computer for a while before I try any face-to-face games.

That's great. It's never too late to spark an interest, especially an old one.

Don't mind Puppet_master01.

The account he owns is 10 days old.

He was more than likely banned on his previous account so he came on another one.

He will be banned again

or

He will close his account again

Either way his time using the Puppet_master01 account will be short!

Than you will see him return with another account.

Even more damning when he doesn't deny it, but only responds with "prove it."

No problem X_Player - he is the reason forums like this have a block function

If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody hears it, did it really fall. Thoes are some heavy accusations, do you have any proof of that?

Congratulations, and welcome back to the great game!  I took a break of 25 years before coming back.

Trotsky, I am back to playing a after a long break and can relate to your pride. There are some insecure people who build themselves up by putting other people down.

I've recently returned to the game too, and also posted on a couple of threads yesterday, turns out the site is full of crazy people - who knew? Well done, keep it up. :)
