Unknown Rule of Chess

I'm probly a newb in chess, but since taking the king is illegal... can someone explain this to me?

Yeah, that is an Illegal position. White could never have moved there unless the bottom of the board as shown is actually the white side of the board and black is getting ready to promote (and win pretty quickly).
white must move the king, it's in check. Moving the queen is an illegal move

He would have to move his King, but the position is not legal. There is no way the white King could have moved there to begin with.
@ Martin_Stahl: you're right, so the board is probably (not) flipped
This happened beforehand... this is apparently legal

I think Martin is right - the bottom of the board must be the white side. But I don`t think such a position is taken from a real game.
EDIT> look at the moves. King goes to c3 which means Martin is right.
the sequencer only accepts legal moves. I set it that way
I keep falling for those flipped board puzzles, I'd better never leave the table when playing otb

That is not a legal move. If the site lets the position be set up, while it is supposed to enforce legal move (does it really do that?), then it is in error.
One of the cardinal rules of chess is that you can not move your King into check; it doesn't matter what the circumstance is.
The idea behind checkmate is that the King has no legal moves where it won't get taken the very next move. In that example, black could just take the white King and the game would be over (if that was allowed).

Look guys, the last move is Qxa6. Doesn't that tell us something about the orientation of the board?

If the board is flipped then that move would have been allowed. I could even see that being puzzle, though the goal would be three-fold repetition draw rather than taking a Rook.

Oops, overlooked the obvious 
I hate when I do that.
yeah, the boards flipped, but that doesn't really change whether that was legal or not. I had it say "Enforce Legal Moves"

Actually, it does. The pawns are moving to the bottom of the board (the white side) and not the other way. Thus the white King is not in check. (wish I had paid more attention before posting all the above).
