Does anyone here play unrated games? I would like to just be able to play another human just for the sake of playing

Unrated daily game, sure, I guess. As long as you don't mind me taking my time.

That's cool. I mean there's no real hurry anyway. Chess should be enjoyable without worrying about time controls. Hell maybe I can learn better this way.

I play one of my old college buddies this way.  He is still learning so I don’t think it is right to earn ratings points for me and for him to lose points. We play here too. Looks like you have people already willing. Good luck and have fun.

Thank you!! I find time controls to be annoying as one bad move, mistake or blunder can really screw one over badly. Chess from my short time playing experience is a methodical game and it takes a lot of calculation and precision. Time limits make things more complicated then they already are as this is a very unforgiving game.

isnt playing a rated game also playing a human just for the sake of playing? so, whats the problem then? put a piece of tape on the screen, over the rating, and voila

I want to play a game where my opponent isn't trying to run me off the board in four or so moves. Time controls only make things worse especially with rating points at stake.

That is the beauty of daily chess. While there is a time limit of your choice, it isn’t stressful. I prefer a time of 3 days myself. That is plenty  of time to look at all your possible moves and the threats against you. I even write notes while I analyze the board in this type of game.  I jot down my thoughts too even what would be bad moves  so that I don’t forget I already covered those lol. I also note my responses for moves my opponent. For example, if my opponent plays this move, then I’ll do this and why. Use the provided analysis board as a tool if you don’t use a real board. I find using the analysis board online more convenient because you don’t have to rearrange the piece ms so much but on the other side of the coin, the 3D visual is best with a real board.

Lastly, join the clubs here that you find of interest (some clubs focus on a particular opening or defense or something the members might share in common) to you and play in vote chess games. You will learn quickly and a lot from the stronger players.

No stress in vote chess.

How do I find these clubs? I wouldn't mind joining a chess club of some kind as well.

Thank you for the feedback!! I was looking for a chess club. I wouldn't mind eventually joining one in real life but I the meantime an online club works as well.

Just search through the variety of clubs here. It appears that you already belong to two.

There are clubs like  NM Aw Rats, Chess University. I belong to both and participate in their vote chess games. I also belong to an opening specific club like the Caro Kann Players, Caro kann cutthroats.

Being an active participant is the key to having success in your learning and having fun at the same time.
