I hate vacation time as well.  I also hate people who wait until their time is about to expire before making their next move.

For me if I choose to play a three days per move game I do it because at some point in the game I will be traveling and don't want to use vacation otherwise I try to keep my games to one day per move.

Playing a three day per move game: I can wake up in the morning, make my moves, fly from the east cost to Asia, get to my hotel room, have dinner, and get a good night sleep and still have a day to spare when I wake the next morning.

Who is ever away from the internet for long enough to justify holding up a tournament for 30+ days....only to let the game time out anyway when the vacation time is all used.

It's frustrating!!!!!!Yell

This has come up so many times.

There is no doubt that some people abuse vacation.

There is also no doubt that members are divided by this, some will complain to the death about it, and some will defend to the death their right to legally use their vacation time as they see fit.

What I would like to see (I know, it will never happen) is to limit the amount of times a player can take vacation, to say twice per month, instead of some cases 2 or 3 times per day.

Play live chess.  There is no vacation time on live chess.  I agree that people abuse vacation time.  I had one person that went on vacation and never came back.  Not only that, but that person's vacation time happened to almost run out at the end of their next vacation time allotment so they went into another 30 days.  Actually the end result was that they ran out of time and I won the game.

I make a policy of checking everyone's time out and if they have time out I don't play them.  Also I play people that have played for awhile to look at their track record.  Another thing some people do is to play many games so usually there are some moves to make.  One danger of that is possibly playing more games than it is reasonable to focus on and your indivdual games suffer because your focus on your game plan suffers.  Play at your level.  I am sure you will find the number you are comfortable with.

Tournaments are a whole different issue.  I am not sure, but I think there are some tournament opportunities that offer no vacation time.  You might check on that.  I quit playing tournaments because I was frustrated about this very issue.  Also depending upon your membership level, you can host your own tournaments.  Hope all this helps.  Just relax and enjoy.  My game is much more enjoyable since I started playing the game for the game.

It would be interesting to know whether or not the site records instances of complaints about ANNOYING VACATIONERS, a record which would enable judgement of the need for action.Does indeed the site employ statistical records for  other pleas also ?
