Do you really have to ask such a question?

Garry won at the WTC final. End of story.

Or rather just part of the story :-) Kasparov had 15-3 in wins against Anand, won several title matches against the Karpov that later in his career won matches against Anand. Kasparov was much higher rated throughout their careers after winning more or less everything for a period of more than 20 years. One doesn't even have to start comparing their tournament results as World Champions to see that the difference between the two is enormous. Not that this reflects all that badly on Anand, Kasparov just played in another division.

What if Kasparov came out of retirement to enter candidates tournament? Technically he would automatically qualify because he's 2nd highest FIDE rated player in the world still!!!!!

That's an interesting thought..in the likely scenario of this happening, do we fancy any chances for him in the Candidates :).

Kasparov-Carlsen. That's what we all want to see.

Scottrf

Along with Klitschko- Ali.

Can't argue with that; it's true.

Kasparov had a lengthy period in his life during which he believed there were more important things than board games, and gave up his chess career to pursue those. A likely consequence of this is that he will never return to his peak ability.

Crazychessplaya

FACT: Kasparov - Carlsen is not happening, now or ever.

Only if there's time travel involved.

I believe that Garry Kasparov is still young enough, skilled enough, talented enough, to beat Magnus Carlsen! That championship match between these two champs would be the greatest thing to happen to further promote the game of chess to countless millions of people. Think about it.

Garry is somewhat taller.

Plus he's sitting on the nice side of Manhattan.

No.

AndyClifton

Okay, so it's the lousy side of Manhattan (what do I know about the East Coast?).

toiyabe

I meant No to the OP lol, I've never been on the East coast in my life!

Pre_VizsIa

Pre_VizsIa

No, "A minimum of thirty (30) rated games in total is required for each player in the 12 monthly rating periods." (August 2012-July 2013)
