Wanting to give up..
And ignore the losers. There's only one way to be a loser in chess, and it is being disrespectful with the opponent.
I might not have the right mind. I work a lot...have a family, pets and take care of the house and I am usually exhausted 90 percent of the time. I try to read or watch chess related material but eventually I get tired and go watch anime or play a pc game or play my guitar lol.

So just take it easy. I had played a bit during my teens and came back to chess when I was in a similar situation, even with a son with serious health issues. Just to escape for maybe half an hour a couple of times per week. And time will come when you'll be more relaxed.
I totally hear you. I've played matches with people on this website that seem like trolls. It makes me sick to my tummy to even think that people would have told you to 'Quit'. How dare they. If you are on chess.com and you're here to TROLL or not take it SERIOUSLY then you shouldnt be playing CHESS.
Chess is a game of INTELLECT and WIT and CLASS.... and as the community gets more TROLLS it diminishes the value of a good CHESS MATCH.....
So im SORRY this happened to u ok!
Astrolux, you obviously enjoy chess and that's what's important. The great thing about chess is you don't have to be great at it in order to enjoy it. One of my favorite games that I've played is one that I lost, I learned from it and it was an exciting game. So just enjoy it.
I'm certainly not an expert, but I agree with the above advice of playing slower time controls. The slower games allow you to take your time and look over the board. The more you do this the more you'll be able to recognize patterns and eventually play better under faster time controls.
As for the comments, turn them off. Why bother? I've found many people will try to chat with you, use abusive language, etc., to distract you from the game. So many people out there love the anonymity of the Internet because it let's them show their true selves - which is unfortunate for the rest of us.
Good luck, and enjoy!
Who uses abusive language? MODS.... can we PAY ATTENTION. YOUR PLAYERS ARE TELLING U THERE IS PEOPLE WHO ARE SWEARING!?!?!
Chess unfortunately needs a lot of determination and dedication. And all these for some doubtful improvement.
If you want to be happy , play your guitar and forget it.If your life is too good and you want a chance to spice things up then chess is the game for you.
But if you need a lot of improvement to feel comfortable with your hobby, you must focus on only a few and keep pushing for more than a while.
LMFAO i have played ofgeniuskind dont listen to him PROMISe hes no good at chess. kid is a child and hes no good at all
If yu knew you were a hopeless case, why make a forum about it?
Hey guys,
I am really discouraged. The other day I played a 3 minute game, just for fun and was told "just resign, loser" and basically this dude just had a really crap attitude towards me. I didn't leave it at that though....I had "some words" with this player. I am tired of toxic people. lol. I am nearly 30 years old, and I have grown tired of elitists and d-bags. Anyway, I said some vulgar things back, which isn't like me, but I am just tired of people...how would you feel if you were told to resign and called a loser, maybe some of you wouldn't care, but I did, and I wasn't going to take it. I played a lot of online games growing up...FPS games like Counter-strike, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc. I remember being told to quit, that I sucked, being called a noob, but I was around 11 or 12 at the time..I didnt care, but now as an adult, it just irritates me...I know that people can be disrespectful, I work in technical support and hear a lot of rude people on the phone every single day. I just never thought it would happen in chess. I know some GM's in the past have been a bit "off" but I figured on here, people would be nice or helpful...guess not/
Anyway, I am not too good at chess, yes. I struggle mid-game and have problems with knowing what to do. and calculating the right moves. I get basic opening theory, control center, bring out knights, bishops first...castle, but after that I just seem to slip up. What is funny is that I can beat the computer on 1000-1200 but yet when I play a person in that same rank...I just suck. I overthink things, and analyze every move, get overwhelmed, and part of my brain just stops caring...I get lazy and just make a move. It seems I don't have the right mind to play chess. I can read about it, do puzzles/tactics, watch videos, but then I play someone and it's like all that goes right out the window.
Has anyone else been this discouraged or just wanted to call it quits? I know I sound like I am whining, but the only games I've ever won were with some friends at work, and a couple times with my wife, but that's about it.
