WGM

I agree. I believe the reasoning behind it is that women are a minority in chess, and because there are less female players, there will be less outliers, so they want to create an equal amount of titled players. Some people also believe that women have a disadvantage in chess because of the way their brains work, or something like that, which I strongly disagree with. Many people say that this whole 'womens' title' thing is unfair to men, because they have to work harder for a title than women do. I think it's unfair to women. It gives the impression that women are less mentally capable of playing chess. It doesn't help the gender gap either, it only equals the amount of titles given out to each gender. I suppose that one potential argument for the women's titles is that they give female chess players more role models and inspiration, but if that's the case, why not lower the requirements for Moroccans, and Somalis, and Hawaiians? They're all minorities in chess too. It just doesn't make much sense to me...
That's a debate that has been around since GM Judit Polgar and WGM Susan Polgar. The other sister, Sophie, is an IM. I believe the reason is time and money on why there are women titles. Women around the world don't have access to money and time away from family with some not being allowed to play with males at all. Susan vocally promotes the female only tournaments so you might want to hear what she has to say.

Men are not called GM and IM. GM and IM are titles for all genders and sexes:

This is true of all sports or activities. Ignoring sports and activities that require strength or speed, where we would not expect women to equal men. However look at the sports like Archery and shooting in the Olympics, they have a separate women’s competition. Likewise sports like snooker and darts; women are just not able to compete alongside men, when in theory they should be able to do so. It is even the same story in scrabble; just do a search on the worlds top scrabble players and you won’t find many females amongst them.
Maybe it is that females do not have that competitive instinct that testosterone loaded men have, I don’t know.
Please be aware I am not trying to insult anyone here, but am just quoting facts with a little conjecture at the end.

It’s a simple way to encourage young women to pursue chess: an activity in which they continue to be massively underrepresented.
You men are not hurt by this. Jeez. I feel reading these threads that I’m watching FoxNews.

That is incorrect. There are no titles that exclude women in chess, only titles that exclude men. GM is for everyone.
It's not an insult to call a WGM or WIM a woman.
Next up: why does white move first? It's racist!
A pawn can't promote to a queen if your original queen's still there! It's not right for a king to have two queens!
Seriously, stop taking this beyond its scope.
Edit: we are not getting indignant. You are. This system was introduced in 1950 and has been in use ever since. Why do you people always try to politicize everything? Titles are an honorific; there's no need to get cynical about how it's actually degrading - or whatever it is you think

That is incorrect. There are no titles that exclude women in chess, only titles that exclude men. GM is for everyone.
What about MGM Man Grand Master and Man Master. International Man Master. Seems like a change we need
But in chess? Like are you kidding. There might be more men players on average but it’s intelligence that’s needed, not physical strength. So women and men are both capable of excelling here so why are women marked as women. Why can’t everyone just be GM’s or IM’s? It’s ridiculous and offensive.
