What are the ideas behind these pawn structures.

I generally understand the ideas behind typical pawn structures (wedges, isolani, etc.), but the related structures I encounter a lot as black I dont. I do ok, basically just wait and see what develops, but it would be nice to know what stronger players play. Here are the structures,

Several more variations on the theme exist, but the have in common a strong black pawn center at d5 and c5 (sometimes d5 and c6 if I traded one of the c pawns for his d pawn after d4), with white having somewhat active pieces. How does black proceed?
