What are those little icons?

Whenever I let my mouse hover over someone's name on the forums, their profile pops up with their name and country, rating, etc.
But on many of the profiles there are between one and a bunch of little icons ranging from a pawn to a gold medal, to god knows what. What are they? I have one on my profile too, and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.
