I think they mean that, when you post in forums, people are more likely to click on your profile to see who made a particular comment.
Or, people just want to see a larger photo of a cute cat. That's why I clicked.

As far as I'm aware, the metric on the profile is only for those that viewed your profile.
why can't we know who is viewing our profile?
at last count, I have over 3,500 views of my profile. I am an average 1600 player at best.
What in the world is so interesting about that?
