what colour is the 1st preference of most chess player? white or black ?

black, so you can mirror white
omg... u r everywhere...
...don't u have homework to do?!

Build your black opening repetoire first.
Then turn it around, and use it from the white side too.
Presto. Your (initial) opening work is done. VERY SIMPLE.

ur doing my head in... i need a ciggy ...brb.

I prefer the white pieces, but only slightly.
I simply like that I don't have to try and equalize right away when playing with the white pieces.

White. Obviously.
Most of the people who think they do better as black actually do better as white anyway.
How true. I would have said Black, then I looked at my Live Standard stats: with White 26 won, 18 lost; with Black 26 won, 24 lost. So even though I don't win less with Black, I lose more. (I didn't count the 20-odd games against the Computer-Impossible here, I lost them all, whatever colour.)

Black. With the black pieces you often play YOUR opening or YOUR system. With white you gets a lot of different positions.

I think there is something wrong with you as a chess player if you prefer the black pieces.
Not necessarily, I have some friends that prefer playing the black pieces because they have pet systems that they can play against any white opening. (....d6, c6, e5, Nd7, Nf6, etc) and still get an acceptable game. Thus, they feel more comfortable with the black pieces, as there is no real "theory."
It's similar to how some people only play the colle/london system as white.

I honestly don't care either. My preference is driven more by what I have played recently and a desire to change it up. I have openings I am enjoying exploring as both white and black and need all the help/practice I can get with both.
I have somewhat higher win % as white, which is normal. So objectively I should prefer white. But a nice Scandanavian or Budapest is fun too.
