What do you feel about players that do perpetual checks when they are losing?

Perpetual check is part of the game.  Contrast this with xiangqi where such repetition is against the rules.

I don't like Chinese Chess' rule against perpetual check. I recommend 3rd repetition draw rule. Perpetual check is real. The Gulf War is going on for about 20 years. The i.e.d.s are keeping the Coalition forces in Afghanistan in perpetual checks for 20 years.

while you're at it, you could include comparisons of perpetual check to grenada, vietnam, the civil war....

c'mon, man!

It isn't a cheap tactic. If perpetual check and occur the game is dead even.

there is a kibidiot on the loose.

If they can perpetually check you then they are not losing. They are drawing. You need to rethink how you understand chess. Having material superiority is only one aspect of the game.

In the position below (white to move) despite a material deficit white is winning.

Presumably people understand how white can win the game above despite having less material. Now take the position below. White to move. Again, white is down in material. But thanks to the position white can get a draw by perpetual check on f8 and f7. It's just how chess works. I am perplexed why anyone has a problem with this.

I repeat: if your opponent can mate you or perpetually check you then, no matter what the material situation, no matter what went on before, and no matter what you think, you are not in fact winning at all.

If it's possible for perpetual check, it is not possible for you to be winning the game.

I said that before it was cool.

I sacrificed my rook to get perpetual check in zonal level last year. I still remember the expression on my opponent's face. it was soo funny.

I remember a strange verbal reaction to my perpetual check before.. a guy told me "play like a man!" and he was very angry.. my response was "that's what a man should do, a man should never accept defeat where he has a chance for more" then i heard he suicided later on.. he must have realized his sexist behaviour and ashamed or realized he wasted his life on a wrong philosophy

teju17

Id call those people 'escape artists!'

But when my opponent does that I get REALLY angry.

Intsead of that you should try to find a place to hide your king

chamo2074

Take it in that way. If a guy keeps checking forever what should the result be? Draw by 50 move rule probably

TheCalculatorKid

Missing a perpetual check is just like missing a checkmate. You aren't ahead in the game once the opportunity is there.

Chrismoonster

Perpetual check is a sensible way to get a draw and avoid defeat.

Yes if you dk the stalemate rules you can't fight on ina dead lost endgame, as well as perpetual check you wouldn't know what to do

JoeLovesCoco

i think is okay, its your fault to let them perpetual check you, though if your winning it feels terrible, but that happens in anything when your winning and you get a draw,
