People still do not realise that chess is a game of skill and not a game of luck.

Dice or roulette wheels are not used in chess. I wonder if I will get a response to this post because I suspect that these people (those who connect chess and luck) only read their (note it is not 'there') own posts. I wonder if this is connected to 'first page psychosis' as in the Daily Puzzle.

just got a response

there is luck, 'cause your opponent (or you) might just miss something that's way below their skill level

Thanks for your response, it must be my lucky day. But surely 'missing something' is a question of lack of skill, or bad technique not luck. On the other hand, if people really believe that chess involves 'luck', then perhaps there is a market for chess lucky charms, guaranteed to improve one's rating. Selling these could be another way to get rich, forget about cryptocurrencies.

there was recently a post here on chess.com about how a 2000 player lost to a 1200 because he self-mated himself. does that mean he is worse than the 1200 player?

Let us have a scientific approach to this, is there statistically valid evidence that kissing a lucky charm improves one's play?  In simple language, did the lucky charm kisser win in this instance? Perhaps we are seeing cultural differences here, are people in the US more likely to believe in kissing lucky charms?
