Maybe the computer knew you were a tax man and tried extra hard against you? Noone likes a taxman do they?
What in the World?????

As you are a CPA, I presume you are in the habit of saving a portion of your income, perhaps more so than most. I would recommend spending your savings on some patience.

I'm pretty new as well. If you do the lessons here and then think about your moves you should be able to beat the computer on lvl 1. I'm not particularly any good and can beat level 2 without too much difficulty.

Go scientific, do one opening. go for exactlly the same position all the time. Once you can do that efficently spend 20 minuetes over the board looking at the structues of the pwans, where would peices be good for you, and youre oppoment. also what the pawn structure doesn't cover or protect as potential weeknesses. Cheaks, caputres, forcing moves when that is done you will find moves come easy, and computers on level 1 will be basic happy hunting.
I am new to chess. I have known the "basic" moves for a long time as to how the pieces move and what not. However, just about last week I took an interest in learning really how to play and learn openings, tactics and etc. So after learning a few basis openings for white ( queens gambit, slavs defense, etc.) and watching some videos on how to attack I decided to play the computer on the lowest setting, 1.... and the computer whooped me... Even with the coach mode on and redoing my mistakes. It literally made no sense how the computer on a setting of 1 can beat me with coach mode on. The computer literally rebutted every move even if the coach mode recommended it as the best move. If that's how hard the computer is at 1 I don't see how in my life time I could ever move beyond 1 and I find my self someone that can understand some more complex ideas seeing I am a tax man but I'm ready to throw in the towel after that...
