Stopped you right there.  Your post has been immediately invalidated.

I think that's one of those things they have at ballparks.  Like this:

(Actually, he looks like one of my cousins.  I find I have a lot of cousins.)

you have to agree most people that join this site are very good at chess and show more than average interest to waste so much time, 1300 is average for this site but way above the average chess player you would meet and you need to really weed out all the players that use programs and engines to get a high score here.

SmyslovFan

A good rating is my rating +200.

Good is relative.

I agree with SmyslovFan

ozzie_c_cobblepot

Good is always going to be 2000+

I don't care about ratings. I aim to score at approx 90% and any resulting rating is a useful by product.

I am over 2000 on this site ... but I still think my chess is absolute rubbish.

Same here. I'm a bit over 2100 and I typically play like an idiot.

I'm convinced that this obssession of comparing chess ratings is akin to something else people get insecure about comparing.

a) We never think ours is good/big enough.
b) Rather than enjoy playing with the rating we have and just having fun, we ruin every happy moment by focussing on not letting it fall down/go limp.
c) We'll be constantly looking for cheap fixes online to pump the rating  up ;)
d) Some of us will overcompensate by repeatedly buying expensive "software" vehicles (often made by Germans).

e) We sometimes  constantly watch live videos of players with enormous (often freakish) ratings go at it and get even more excited if anyone tries anything offbeat or unconventional .

f)We arrogantly pretend to understand and imitate those "maneuvers" in our own games with disastrous /embarrassing effects.

Oh, I could go on. Any one like to add to this list? :)

I was asked if I was any good at chess and I thought I came up with a pretty good answer.  It depends on who I'm playing.  If I'm playing somebody pretty good, I'm horrible.  But if I'm playing somebody horrible, I'm pretty good.

I see what you did there.

ChiseledChessy

the highest ive had my rating was over a year ago at 1658... im much stronger now but my rating doesnt agree, i prefer to play real tough players to get used to that type of resistance

makikihustle

Anyone consistently rated over 2200 is a good player, in my opinion.

RangerStewie

The only good rating is the one that keeps going up!

Salmonster

good would be over 2000 i think an average player is around 1200 or so.

blueemu

On the other hand, a 1200 player has left himself more room for growth. That shows that he's planning ahead.

Iatros1980

well i'm at 800... but hey, i can beat the hell out of the guys at 600.

n+1

TheBigDecline

It's the average rating of every member on this site, +1. At the time I'm writing this, the "least best" good rating would be 1366 - in Correspondence Chess, that is.
