What is Hurt/Heal?

On these here Chess.com fora I see many "Hurt/Heal" threads.

Where did this concept originate?  I have never heard the term "Hurt/Heal" anywhere in my life.  Is "Hurt/Heal" a Chess.com original concept?

Does anyone know?

I don't know where it originated, but the concept is simple. The OP gives a list with each item on the list having some number of points, say 20.

Each poster gets to "hurt" one item on the list and "heal" another, subtracting and adding a point respectively.

When an item on the list hits zero, it's eliminated (at least that's how I would do it). The last item on the list "wins".

If the whole thing seems pointless to you, you are not alone - but it's a bit of fun.

Um, no. Because then the game would never end. A hurt is -2 and a heal is +1. So that way eventually things are eliminated.

Yeah brah but the main question is, where did this "game" originate?  Here on Chess.com brah?  If so, can you point out the first instance of it?

@johnmusacha- I've seen it played in tons of forums on other websites, it wasn't created on Chess.com

Really?  Can you please give me some examples brah?

Basically any website with forums has a good chance of having a hurt heal thread. So just go find a site with forums.

No I've never seen this Hurt/Heal stuff on any forums but the Chess.com forums.

Well, there are plenty of forums out there with hurt heal. Look for forums that have a "forum games" section, those usually have a hurt heal.

What are "forum games"?  I've also never heard of such.

It works with adding and subtracting any number that is somewhat smaller than the starting value, but is rather pointless with just two items.

Forum Games are common.  It's not just chess sites.  LibraryThing.com (a site about books) also has them.

They are simply games where one post follows another.  The type of game may vary.  Some common examples include:

Word Games changing X number of letters - Games of this nature start with a word, let's say the thread was 8 letter words, and let's say the first word is Thumping, the next poster must post an 8 letter word using the letters in the word thumping except he can replace up to two of them, so he might remove the N and G, replace them with R and S, scramble the rest of the letters, and make triumphs.

In the case of Library Thing, someone might mention a book title, then the next one must come up with another book title that shares at least word (or a form of the word, plural, past tense, etc), so you might get a chain like "A Time To Kill" by Grisham followed by "Killing in the Name of Identity" by whoever wrote that, and the next post might be a title with the word "Name" or "Identity" in it, etc, and it just goes on and on.

Those are just a couple of examples of what "forum games" are.
