What is "it" all about?

It is often asked: is chess a sport, art, science... etc.
For me personally chess is very much about discovery, and in that way I view it as a science. The joy it brings me and the individual playing styles also suggest a very artistic base to it... but largely I view chess very scientifically.
With that in mind, I love finding the truth of a position. I can appreciate beautiful play against me and a few of my favorite games have been losses.
But it cannot be denied that my purpose at the outset of every game is to win. All that other stuff is mostly reserved for examining the game after the hatchets are buried. Chess is war, and when the game is on... I think it's about winning.

I think I'm playing ok. In general I win two games for each one I lose and my rating is continuously improving. But I'm reading some books and practicing outside Chess.com too.

Oh! I should read some books as well if I wanna' improve. -_- How long have you been dedicated to progress in chess?

Less than one year, but I'm not quite a dedicated student, to be honest...
What do you think chess is about? Winning, improving, having fun? I wanna' know what you guys think.
