There is a scientific study actually -
A serious study on chess/IQ correlation where they managed to control for practice. The result is that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between IQ and chess skills.

IQ is a very complex matter which takes into account many different forms of intelligence and memory. Chess only uses parts of this, so a full IQ assesment cannot be done just from chess performance.

Doesn't mean they are good if I had to guess it rnges between 100-140 you don't have to have 170 iw to be good at pattern recognition there's prob some people that are good that are around 80 ish but maybe mess common
