What is the difference between chess games?

There are different king of chess games, like Rapid, bullet, blitz, etc...
Names correspond to time controls. Blitz games are typically about 5 to 10 minutes per side, bullet is the fastest and the name is usually reserved for games of about 1-3 minutes per side but these names can vary. Depending on who you ask they may be familiar with different names for time settings.
