What is the most boring thing in chess?

I think finishing a won game is one of the boring things in chess.

evie33

Either that or a really boring book-line opening.

DeepGreene

Watching my opponent trying to program his Chronos chess clock every week... Actually, even that is kind of amusing.

(DGT rules!!)

People trying to trade down pieces at every opportunity.

Golbat

The most boring thing in chess is letting your opponent trade off all of the pieces, resulting in a drawn game.

endgames rule i dont know what y'all are talking about, trading pieces off to get to an endgame where i milk the smallest advantage is a pleasure  :)  ...playing yet another ruy lopez is BORING...i dont play 1.e4 often because i hate the ruy

ATJ1968

Giving someone a lift in the car and they're talking you through one of their games without a board to look at. Mainly because you have to concentrate on the road.

But that is nonsense, because you can decide yourself if you want to play the ruy. You have two perfectly sound alternatives in the Italian and the Scotch. Even earlier, you can decide to make things exciting with the Kings Gambit (which isn't as sound, but will work at the club level.)

I'm more troubled by the sicilian, which, indeed, has a lot of theory. That is something your oppponent can actually opt for - unlike playing the Ruy.

jpd303

after 1.e4 e5... nf3 is the only good move (Leaving out kings gambit and center opening [2.d4]) which is almost always followed by nc6...  i cant stand the scotch or the italian, even more than the ruy!  so i retract my former statement and say that the italian game is the most boring of all openings...but i chose the ruy and wont play the italian so that validates my first statement that i cant stand playing yet ANOTHER ruy

Me too. In tournament games it can actually take hours to finish a game two pawns ahead, just making sure you don't hang a piece!
