Becoming a titled player would reap a great sense of personal satisfaction I would imagine.

i stopped playing just before getting the NM title, i couldn't spend the rest of my life known as a chess nerd. so i guess i see no real benefit.

If they write a book about chess it's going to be taken more seriously than one by a non-titled player.

Likewise teaching chess...

Obviously they still have to be able to write a book for the one, and have teaching skills for the other...

The real world means nothing to a chess player!

Besides, it's titles like "Sir" that mean nothing... or, at least, nothing good... I mean take a look at the some of the people who've got knighthoods.

Titles like King and Duke DO mean something... they mean that the person so titled is descended from a pirate or bandit! grin.png
