What is the worst chess experience you have ever had?

I just played a tournament at my local chess club and for knocked after losing every game I played. In every game I had a winning position and then managed to lose anyway. Now I don't want to play chess anymore, lol.

I thought maybe I'd feel better if I heard some other people's experiences and learned what they did to encourage themselves to play again

Not been to many chess tournaments, but I once had a guy give me a death glare after I mated him on move 7 (smothered mate). Although that was mostly funny, he showed up to our high school tournament with a full suit and tie when most people were dressing casual. Interesting man 😂

He looked weird enough to be a good chess player 😂. There was also the guy who offered me a draw three times when I was clearly winning. Oh yeah, and a girl who was newer to the game thought I was cheating when I queen side castled. High school chess tournaments are very interesting.

The only game I've played where friends came to cheer me on, I lost. It was a very long game so I had to even wake one of them up to tell them the result.

And yeah, I was winning going into the endgame, but his endgame ability was better than mine at the time.

This isn't my worst experience but it probably was for my opponent. I was playing a tournament game and my opponent was about 12 years old.  He had an easily winning position in the late middle game/early ending and his facial expression and behavior showed he clearly knew he was gonna win and that he was just waiting for me to resign.  While it was my move he got up and went over to who I assumed were his parents,  then over to who I assumed were his brother and sister to get them to come watch his glorious win. He came back with this crowd of admirers so they could watch his beat down of me and enjoy it too. Then he fell into a tactic that cost him his win and he turned a win into a loss while they all stood there and watched.  It was great watching his facial expression go from smug/gloating to the realization that he was lost while they all stood there and watched.  Good times.
