What is with people not giving rematches?

I think there should be an auto rematch decline setting available... Seriously!

liked the idea.

I rarely accept rematches. Mostly, I like to study my game once I'm done, especially if I've lost. These days i play mostly 15 minutes per game. After a half hour of chess I like to take a break anyway. Is the OP saying that wanting to take a break after a half hour of hard effort is wrong? Lol. I'm trying to learn and improve, not burn out, lol. I mostly avoid 5 minute chess these days because it doesn't give me time to incorporate what little ability I do have into my game. Beyond that, these are random games against an endless list of similarly rated players. Not wanting to be rude, but assuming people owe you a rematch I believe is some kind of ego problem that you need to address with yourself.

I like this thread. I'm never rematching again.

What is going through people's heads. Why so much denying?

What is it with jerks thinking the world owes them a rematch?

What is going through people's heads? Why so much whining?

if they wanted to play several games why did they not ask at first ?  some one got all bent out of shape on me , but the smoke detector  went off in the kitchen  . i was so into the game that i forgot i was cooking  . i almost always lose the second game anyway ...??? yeesh , batman do u really have to get yer no-prize points back that bad ?  hey guy thatsa what the friend option is for .

Also i'm curious why people request a rematch only when they have lost?

Pulpofeira

This is a pointless topic that returns over and over. But I'm curious about the assumption of "cowardy", even if it's correct in some cases. How the heck can anyone fear an online loss, on casual games played in absolute anonimity? And if so, why play any game, anyway? You are exposed to it every time you play, rematch or not.

Darth_Algar

When I do play live games (which isn't often) I rarely accept or request rematches. Usually I'm only up for a game or two at a time then I feel like moving on something else. If your ego is so delicate that you get bent out of shape from not getting a rematch then that is your problem, not mine.

Most of the time, I couldn't care less who my opponent is and I just click the find a new game button when this one is over. I guess I often don't even notice you're offering a rematch.

Sometimes I do notice, and if a new match hasn't started yet, I may accept. But only once, I don't like to play the same player with the same color twice. Either we play the exact same variation again, or one of the players has to change, and I'd rather play a new random player instead.

Very rarely (say twice per year) I'll offer a rematch, if the game was either really a lot of fun or something grossly undeserved happen to either side at the end of the first game (a brilliant attack only failed because of a one move blunder or loss on time right before mate or so). Maybe the opponent will accept, otherwise who cares.

It is always the phalus. They lose it when they lose the game. An old witch put a curse on them.

Ok seriously I hardly rematch, because when they win, they cannot leave fast enough.

The question is: HOW COME PEOPLE DON'T RE-REMATCH?

boring rerun of an old issue...its time to close the dribbling over re-matches

LOL

Chess is all about rematches!

And here I thought it was about moving pieces and achieving checkmate.

You have to defend yourself hence a World Champion defending his title. This mode of thought should be in all chess player's blood. It's shocking about people's attitude towards a rematch.

I never, ever, decline a rematch. A one-win wonder or loss doesn't prove anything. But yes, I agree with the above, there are times when you need to dash, however, the usual culprits run for the hills at the sniff of a rematch.

I'm concerned by the concept that you think you are trying to "prove" something.  This is one of the major reasons I decline rematches.  People that want them think in those terms, and it disturbs me.

xman720

So far almost every rematch I have been offerred has been after a win. Can anybody explain why this is? It seems weird that winners want to give rematches, but at least 80% of rematch offers are when I am the loser. I don't quite understand what those people are rushing to do.

One time, I witnessed the extremely confusing situation of a player offerring a rematch and then disconnecting before I had a chance to accept.

MuhammadAreez10

I rarely offer a rematch. I usually accept them if I have time to play. I won't accept re-rematches.

That's it.

univfanclub

I never give rematches for a reason. They make me feel so much pressure. If I win a game it gets personal to not lose the second one. Same if I lose. If I lose I will never ask for a rematch.
