what limits "good"

We can't all be GMs. Many won't make it to NM. What limits how good you can get at chess? What exactly is talent? How do you know that you've reached the limit of your talent?

U left out CMs, FMs, and IMs.

KevinTheSnipe

yeah but anyone can become a CM, that's why I left it out.

bunicula

oh ok.  any1 can become CM but many won't make it to NM?  i think u might've reached the limit of ur talent in logic here.

KevinTheSnipe

the question is serious but the CM thing is a joke.

the thing which separates us is how much time and effort we put into chess. some people have more demanding priorities so chess doesn't take precedence over the basic chores that most people must do, like work and or raise kids etc.

Becoming a CM requires selling your soul. The higher titles require harvesting souls from others. I don't like violence or eternal suffering or any of that stuff. I just want to sit in the meadow and make daisy chains. I quickly realized chess wasn't my future.

bunicula

there is a future?

BlargDragon

Maybe not. It might just be the past all over again, if time is like an Ouroborous eating its own butt.

Or the green light at the end of the dock.

BlargDragon

Green means go, right? I'ma hit that dock at full speed.

But you'll be going against the current, and ultimately borne back ceaselessly into the past.
