What’s a book move?

I’m new, currently can beat 1200 elo bots and have no trouble with the 1k or below but have little experience with real people. I don’t know what a book move is, I always get 2-4 and would like to learn more about what they are and why they matter.

A book move is a confirmed move from an accepted gambit, defense, or opening.

A book move is a move that has been played before and afterwards was recorded in a book.
Book moves do not matter at all and certainly not at your level.
Focus on bringing out your pieces and controlling the center and castling your king to safety.
Focus on tactics: tactics for you but even more tactics for your opponent.

Generally chess.com will tell you which gambit, defense, or opening you’ve used, and percent chance of victory. If you’ve studied openings and really know how to use them, then go for it! But otherwise, just freewheel it. But, like tygxc said, book moves don’t effect anything.
