What's wrong with this move?

This is my first ever message so bear with me.  I am trying to focus on sound opening principles, but it's not always so obvious to me.  I know the white bishop is the weakest piece in the Sicilian for black, so I guess my idea was to develop it to a square where I could quickly exchange it.  My guess why I went from +0.8 to -0.1 in this move is that the knight isn't a good piece either in that it can only go to the rim or the unthreatening g5.  Exchanging the pieces also makes the Queen stronger.  The analysis recommends grabbing the center with e5 or creating a threat with Qb6 instead, which I get conceptually that these were better moves, but just checking my thought process on why my move was a mistake.

It looks like the black bishop should have waited to go to whites house until later

A bishop is worth more than a knight. Do not exchange a bishop for a knight unless it brings you benefits. In this case ...O-O or ...Ng4 or ...e5 or ...Bd7 were better moves.
...O-O is a developing move, that brings your king to safety and connects your rooks to activate them.
...Ng4 harrasses Be3 and threatens to exchange it, when the unopposed Bg7 would reign supreme
...e5 seizes control over central square d4, leaving white cramped
... Bd7 is harmonious developemen, freeing the path for Ra8
