I think it's great to have a superior free alternative to yahoo for live chess.

But.....

1) It bothers me a little when people routinely abandon games on this site after accepting seeks.

2) It bothers me that people can abandon their games as late as move 3 and it is as if the game never began in the first place.

3)  I'm mildy bothered by the fact that I can't publicly share information on the forums about other chess sites on the web which contain free instruction because it might discourage some people from actually paying money to chess.com for their services.

But to reiterate, this really is a great site.

The 'post your reply' box, which I am typing in right now, annoys me. It tries to be too helpful, and it ends up being a pain.

It uses double spacing (i.e., every time you press enter, it's as if you've pressed it twice), which is really annoying at times. Inserting an image requires using the image toolbar, which is a lot more hassle than simply using [img]URL[/img] tags as in other forums. Same with the smilies: you can't simply type ":)"; you have to use the toolbar. Another thing is the font. I really dislike this font.

Anyway, having said all that, I really like chess.com. Laughing

My pet peeve is that whenever I do a game analysis, it claims that every one of my moves is a major blunder Wink  (joke)

Seriously though, the free 10 day trial is one of those things that annoys me. I saw the offer, thought "ooh, ok, I'll give it a go", then find that it automatically signs you up to Platinum membership that you have to cancel before your card gets charged.Frown Yes I know you can just cancel it, but these are the kind of tactics that unscrupulous companies used to use (they would make it nearly impossible to cancel), so it's a turn off for me.

Saying that, I'll be signing up for membership when I get home, I'm currently on extended vacation and money is rather tight! Great site!

its really easy to cancel the membership (the trial).. i see no hassle..

and my pet peeve is when some1 doesnt resign in an obvious position

Even if it's easy to cancel, I dislike things like that.

Another annoying thing about these forums is that you can start a thread and then delete it. For example, BlitzStrike, who started this thread, has the ability to delete this whole thread (along with all the replies)!

Simlilarly, it's possible to edit your posts without any notification. So if someone replies to you without quoting what you said, you can completely change what you said (without any "last edited by xxx" notification), making them look silly.

The "Share Toolbar" getting in the way of game annotations.

If you don't know what i'm talking about, see my comment in this thread and white's move #25 in the game in that article:

My pet peeve is people who complain without investing in the site.

Getting kicked off the Live Chess server during a game and losing because of that. Had it happen twice already.

1) the live chess disconnections and...Cry

2) the spam threads and the topics that come up over and over again in the forums.the forums need moderating.Frown

No peeves. Chess.com is perfect as is.

My pet peeve is that some places on the site (like the forum) the comments are sorted oldest first, and some places (like blog comments) it's the other way around. Confusing!

I'm always annoyed that the game of the day isn't an example of the opening of the day

it bothers me that anyone complains about this site. Chess.com is a very nice site, and completely free as well. If anyone has a  problem with the site you can A) Deal with it. B) ask the staff to fix it or C) Leave the site. I prefer option A with whatever very minor problems i have. this is all just a suggestion.

Try typing Ctrl-Enter to get single-spaced carriage returns.
It works for me on FireFox.

Yes -- an effective solution, just don't use that shortcut in Microsoft Outlook....

A minor nitpick is that sometimes the editor removes the occasional bit of whitespace and runs my words together.  This seems to happen when I edit a post.

Both of these are excellent points . . . i.e. points I wish I had thought of but became obvious to me only after reading them.

OP shouldn't have too many pet peeves since he has 0 games played on chess.com.  Makes me curious why he wants to know... BlitzStrike?

My biggest complaint is that you lose when you get disconnected in live chess.  When you get disconnected your clock should continue to run and you should get like 1-2 minutes to log back in and continue.  It is very frustrating when I am ahead or the game is even but I lose because my internet is bad.  Im not saying you even your entire clock to log back in, just 1 minute.
