Why wouldn't you move the pawn up 2 spaces instead of 1?

onething i suppose castling do is weak your defense  and in the end become one useless move .....making king useless piece without any use in the whole game .......castling should only be done switch king from the possible attack not to put in the safer place from the start ....those who castle in first 10 moves are really doing it uselessly

Everybody has a different oppion about castleing.  Some people wait forever to castle, some do it immediately, and some just a wait a little while.  What do you do?

Early as possible people who leave their Kings in the center every single game and never castle at all are fools...............

1) The King in the center can be attacked by both sides of the board when it's castled it only one way it can be approached

2) Rooks can't get out to open files to do their job

3) When the King is uncastled and in the center it can very dangerous to make any pawn moves

4) You can't go on the offensive with an unsafe King because your attention will constantly be diverted to dealing with annoying threats by your opponent wasting time and time is a luxury you cannot waste in chess ever

If white usually as early as possible because once you castled, you can do things to prevent your opponent from castling by making all kinds of threats to open the center or to attack the diagonals.  The reason to delay castle mostly has to do with generates tactcis from queenside castle.

As black, sometimes castling too early is bad.  I rather wait and see to see if castling queenside is safer.  But once I determined that castling queenside is definitely safer, there is no point delaying castling further unless a bunch of pieces are traded including the queen and the game is headed toward end game.

So you resurrect a 4 year old thread to post a load of old waffle. You will go far on these forums.

you castle after you have developed your pieces on the side your choosing to castle,it might vary with different openings. Also when you feel your king is in any sort of unpleasant danger.good day,FROM AUSTRALIA.

I think it was Lasker that said "Castle if you should or if you must, but never castle simply because you can".

If it wasn't Lasker it was a contemporary.

I recommend castling early but in a game of mine I was checkmate at castling position so it's not always best to castle very early

Avatar of technical_knockout

usually wait until i know where my king should go, but sometimes it's prudent to castle early so you can focus on other matters.

This thread could use a NFR tattoo. But seriously, I like that Lasker quote above. People say 'aim to castle in the first 10 moves,' but it depends on how much heat your opponent is bringing to the centre, or whether they can easily respond and just pour pressure onto your castled position. Castle when it's the most secure option and best of all, when the opponent can't easily adapt to the new position. That being said, in development, it's best to create the possibility of doing so as soon as practical, I'd suggest. having options is always good.
