From white's side or black?

Both

White: Ponziani (3. c3) or Scotch (3. d4). The Ponziani is arguably kinda bad, but it does throw people off, and I've done fairly well with it.

Black: French-Sicilian (1... c5 [...] 2...e6). The light-squared bishop does get blocked in, but it's not impossible to sneak it in and make it a big problem for your opponent.

The reasons the Ponziani is "kinda bad" are so counterintuitive that you can safely ignore them. The ponziani is probably the most underrated sub-master opening. I play it at ~2000 level and win more than half my games in it.

Recent stats, for example:

QuynhN2015

Scotch or Vienna for White, Sicilian or French for Black

blueemu

Sicilian Najdorf for either side.

Me as White:

Me as Black:

pr0n00b3r

Four knights game or center game

thereturnofthesnowfox

Personally I play the hippo from either side, badly.
So it's probably that.

Hmm. I didn't realize you could look at your own stats with various openings until now.

As expected, I do pretty well with the Ponziani (so far), and to my surprise I have a somewhat positive score with the Sicilian (both with it and against it) as well.

This is all very interesting to me. I'm probably going to spend an unhealthy amount of time looking at it now! grin

Glad I could help. If you like OpeningTree, you should try chessmanager.com - tell me what you think!

Also, both very useful for prepping opponents if you’re playing tourneys or your friends regularly.
