Hey everyone,

I have a PowerMac G5 with a dual 2.7 Ghz PowerPC G5 processor and looking for a good chess engine that will run with OS X 10.5.8 and will be good for chess anaysis (no, I have no intentions of cheating). Anyone have a good suggestion?

Thanks,

Matt

I don't know anything about Macs or their operating systems, but just in case nobody else responds, here's a link for engines and GUIs (commercial and free) that will work on Macs of some type (which ones work with which OS, I haven't a clue):

I'm not big into all of this mac stuff so i'm not sure if it will work or not but Arena is a nice free one: http://www.playwitharena.com/. It is a free GUI chess engine.

Please note, I don't have access to the mac app store, it is Leopard, not Snow Leopard

Chess Lv. 100 is good, probably not for analysis unless you play it to find the best moves in an analysis.

I've heard good things about HIARCS Chess Explorer for Mac. It isn't free though.

Bump. I would like a few more suggestion as to where I can find an engine that will run on my computer. MIne is a 2004 mac, AND IT DOESN'T RUN ON INTEL (in other words, it is made by IBM, also the OS is 5 years old, so give note to that too)! Please, before you post, make sure it is PowerPC compatible, most of these give me the message "This app isn't compatible with this architecture" Architecture being the processor.

Thanks,

Matt

For PowerPC Macs, Sigma Chess should work. And it's FREE!
