Which Country, On Average, Has the Strongest Chess Players ?

If the average player of every country played each other, who would win?

probably a russian or indian

To me, the ones that give me the hardest time are Ukrainians.  Every game is a tough game; even their weak players are strong.  Countries that have made me notice are Russia, India, China, the Phillipines, but Ukraine--those guys have been headaches.

All ex Soviet Union countrys are the strongest, far strongest then the rest of the world. India comes near becouse chess is cheap fun.

Wait untill China kiks in. Hopefully, someday.

I think its Iceland, small country with a lot of titled players.

I must agree that russians, czech people, and ukranian people are very goodd players. But I have noticed that there are TONS of people from my country Bosnia on this site, even though they only consist of a population of like 3,5 million. They are REALLY overrepresented and love to play chess, and I must say they have some really strong players!

The old oppressive communist U.S.S.R. deliberately developed an intensive chess school to promote its ideology overseas.Their top chess players lived a life of comparative luxury.

Since we are talking averages, shouldn't the answer be Armenia? Lots of GMs considering how small the population is and chess is part of high school curriculum there.

I've had my butt whupped by players from just about every country on this site--you get good players on here and they'll take your head off if you let them.  If anybody took what i said as a slight, I apologize here; I didn't mean to say that that list was exclusive or definitive.  If you look at my games, I been scalped more than a few times by Bosnians or Indonesians, Poles, Isrealis, etc.  It's just that Ukrainians give me fits, is all.

That's true. Based on FIDE ratings, Indonesia's rank under India's but I told about Beginner Achievement on Live Chess-BULLET in here (chess.com). Indonesia has a better position.
