which is more powerful bishop or knight?

The pawn structure is a crucial part of it. Bishops thrive in open spaces and knights need outposts created for them and tend to do better in more closed positions. Bishops do better in endings with pawns and action on both wings but on one side a knight may be better because it can attack both colored squares where a bishop cant.

wow thanks for the info

Actually bishop is more powerful because 2 bishops can force checkmate but 2 knights cannot force checkmate

True , but knights are more tricky with the forks and all

manas thats correct but... we are not discussing about team work at those pieces we are checking their power when they are at individual group

Hmm yeah

i agree

2 bishops r powerful but go look up a few videos with well annotated games where knights dominate.  Pay close attention to the explanations of WHY the knight/s  is/r better in those games.

As the pawns come off the Bishops get stronger and the Knights lack cover and congestion.

Like this I vote knights and I have a long reason for that

Avatar of chessisNOTez884

oh ok what is that long reason

Avatar of chessisNOTez884

according to me in most of the positions bishops are powerful because in most of our endgames

they will be pawns on two sides as we all know bishops can go faster than knights

we can say that bishops are better

Avatar of chessisNOTez884

but.... in some positions even if pawns are on both sides knights can win

this is because for suppose take a bishop as a light squared one and let the pawns be on dark squares

by this, they would be a massive disadvantage for the bishop as it cant defend those pawns

so that, knights can jump onto those pawns and can win easily

Actually at my house my father is the best chess player. So one day I was playing chess with my uncle and I had 2 rooks and 4 pawns. My uncle had only 1 knight and 2 pawns. My uncle resigned but my father took his place and started playing from his side and he captured all my pieces with his knight and promoted his pawn to queen and I lost
