Who do you think is the best chess player in chess history?

jacobhrobertson

Magnus Carlsen. He plays the most perfect chess I have ever seen.

FIM-Markus_of_Israel

he is amazing, he almost beat kasparov when he was just a kid, but he made a mistake and they drew

NimzoRoy

In terms of being more advanced than his contemporaries, compared to chessplayers of other eras compared to their contemporaries,  Paul Morphy. In absolute terms (playing strength) Gary Kasparov - at least until Carlsen becomes the next World Champion.

FIM-Markus_of_Israel

paul morphy was definetly good

So, then, when were players overall stronger than Carlsen, Anand, Kramnik, Aronian, Radjabov, Karjakin, Caruana, Ivanchuk, Topalov, et al, ever active?

1) 1890-1910 era: Lasker, Janowski, Marshall, Blackburne, Teichmann, Burn, Duras, Maroczy, Schlechter, Charousek, Tarrasch, Chigorin

2) 1950-1965 era: Botvinnik, Bronstein, Smyslov, Tal, Petrosian, Keres, Geller, Gligoric, Korchnoi, Larsen

TetsuoShima, I agree completely.  The fact that it took 13 comments to name Fischer speaks for itself.  All the great players mentioned are truly great, but based on the record alone, Fisher is the greatest . . . in my humble opinion.

FIM-Markus_of_Israel

Bobby fischer  made chess really popular in america

superking500

magnus defintelly, the man is chess incarnated into human flesh

what does that have to do with anything????

its like saying there are 13 guys in a pub, 12 say the oil price will rise therefore the oil price will rise.

I think you are preaching to the choir. I mean, he was in accord with what you said and now you are going out of you way to refute his statement, indirectly weakening your own argument.

TetsuoShima

i read it wrong my fault

TetsuoShima
