ME! I'm just having a bad run at the moment.
Who is the best chess player in the world?

Is the shatranj master, al-Suli also known as as-Suli?
No, you're thinking of as-Suli's brother, alan Suli.

"Bongcloud 1
Capablanca 1
As-Suli 1
Laker 1
Kramnik 0.5
Houdindi 1"
And Laker? How about "Houdindi"?

I know my answer is boring. But until Carlsen wins the world title he can't be the greatest player.
Kasparov, Kramnik and Anand all have won the world title and all have been +2800.
The match I most want to see is Aronian-Carlsen. That will be fantastic! A close second is Carlsen-Kramnik. That would be a battle of generations and opening philosophies the like of which we have never seen!

As-Suli and Al-Suli are the same. The article 'al' is pronounced 'as' when followed by an S. You can write it either way.
And shatranj is chess. You wouldn't say that Lasker played Schach, or Capablanca played Ajederez, so they were no chess players, would you? But granted, back then the rules were not the same as today.

Thanks. I figured it had something to do with transliteration.

Shatranj and chess are related, but very dissimilar.

Duck, I have not been able to find any support for your claim that
"The article 'al' is pronounced 'as' when followed by an S. You can write it either way."
Where can I go online to find out more about "as" being an acceptable written form of the definite article in Arabic?

please do not know but for sure i am the happiest player in the world
especially now i 've beaten shredder at 1594 elo on android without knowing opening theory, sorry but i had to share that
Does it really matter? What interests me is the players whose games I enjoy playing through most. Out of interest thet are Morphy, Capablanca and Fischer.

Oh come on get serious... the best chess player. It has to be Jessica Simpson.

I heard of a ridiculous statistic that anand won only like 10 games this year: can anyone tell me how many total games hes won in 2012?
Until someone beats Anand in a match he is de facto the best player as he holds the highest title available.
