Rooting for Nakamura but I think it's Nepomniachtchi's year.

nepo has good chances to win it, but fabi and Hikaru are going to play beautiful chess from now for sure

Hikaru he’s just a cool dude

Nepo is now undefeated for 24 straight Candidates matches. went 5-9-0 in 2022, standing at 2-8-0 right now. he's also been leading (or tied 1st) after every round in all three Candidates tournaments since 2020. that's 38 straight rounds. pretty insane statistics. I still think he's the favorite, still rooting for Fabi though.

Some new guys like gukesh or pragg vidit maybe hikaru or ian

I see Gukesh winning this Candidates tournment.

Although others including Hikaru, Ian, Pragg, etc., are also in a good spot right now.

Predicting the outcome of a chess tournament like the FIDE Candidates can be quite challenging, as it depends on various factors such as the players' current form, preparation, and performance under pressure. Additionally, the strength of the field can make it unpredictable. However, some players who have consistently performed well in recent years and have a good chance of winning could include Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Ding Liren, and Ian Nepomniachtchi, among others. Ultimately, it's difficult to determine a clear favorite until the tournament actually takes place and unfolds.

The really funny part: ChatGPT is too dumb to realize that Magnus or Ding don't even play in the tournament. Or that the tournament has already started.

Nonsense ChatGPT text with a touch of an advertisement in the end. I truly want to see how Magnus who has played 0 games in this tournament will turn it around, or how Ding will play against himself for the title.

The less funny part: this "OlaJackson" is obviously a spambot, who's been spamming for more than 2 weeks now and nobody in the moderator team is doing anything about it.

Hikaru!!!!

Nakamura has shown he can beat anyone. Unfortunately he is also vulnerable to upsets, as losses here have shown.

Caruana can build up winning positions as well as any (including Carlsen), but how often he runs low on time and lets the win slip away.

Based on past candidates success Nepomniatchi might be the pick, but any of the top 4 or 5 could win it.

Absoluvely agree, Nepo has shown to be very consistent!

Nonetheless, I'm sensing that Gukesh could surf some favorable tides:

  • Nepo tied 2 games vs Abasov, while Gukesh won 1 and still has 1 more to play (with the black pieces, however 2 out of 3 from Gukesh's victories were with black)
  • Nepo and Gukesh drew both games vs each other and are currently tied 1st with 6/10. So it could come down to pairings where it seems that Gukesh has it a bit lighter in these last 4 rounds. (it's really awkward to say anything is "lighter" here lol, these are all players of humongous strength)
  • Gukesh has white vs Firouzja on R13, which could pose a slight advantage in psychological terms since Alireza had some distractions which could have gotten to him a bit more than it should.

Despite all that, we still have Fabi, Naka, Pragg and Vidit into the mix for great fun and huge unpredictability. This Candidates is all but one-sided.

Gukesh or Nepo

Ian Nepomniachtchi is the favourite at the moment although it is by no means over yet.

I like that players are paid for each half point because it makes those out of contention keep playing like it still matters.

i just had a feeling that ding would lose his title this year, the weight of the world championship crown has caused severe mental pressure on him after the championship and he has withdrawn in a lot of events ever since. he's already starting to crack with poor performances and that just gives a big target for the new bloods eyeing that title
