I started liking botvinnik games nowadays.People who mainly play on initiatives, gambit or wild attack can learn the other beutiful side of chess from older 'less opening theory heavy' positional player's. as someone mentioned earlier he a was true fighter like lasker on board.Rumour was that he never played chess for fun.

here is one of his game

Botvinnik is[was] definetely a good positional player. I still would vote for either Pertrosian or Rubenstien though.

Difficult to rank any modern player ahead of Carlsen, considering that he has been quite clear #1 for many years and is considered to be positional rather than tactical.

I must say that most of GM keep static pawns during their game to avoid weaken their position... but I suppose no one studied the mobile pawn structures made by Philidor. I like mobile pawns...

HorribleTomato

Alphazero. Obviously. it sacks lots for positional advantage

"Positional" just makes you think of these players: Kramnik, Karpov, and Capablanca.

Is this the longest running thread? It was started nearly ten years ago.

I'll go with Akiba Rubenstein as well. He perfected the ideas of Steinitz and Tarrasch.
