Because it was/is hilarious.

Apparently men also overestimate how funny they are as well.

Conduct a funded study on this and confirm it beyond all statistical doubt, and then there may be a small chance that we might potentially possibly believe you.

Now that is funny!

I have a definite nail deficiency in my diet, and I believe my chess game is suffering as a result.  I'm going to eat a box of nails a day and see if I break 2000 because of it.  Only what type of nail should it be....?

Ruby-Fischer

A fine question OP, and a good idea to do a piece of research.

I was wondering about perhaps conducting a twin study to prove this once and for all. How about if anyone has male identical twins, I could take one, raise it to watch football, feed it nails and force it to play chess from the age of 4 etc.

The other one could have a pink bedroom, some dolls and ummm I dont know nails painted every week instead.

I'll have to give more thought to this really, just an idea at the moment.

Maybe if anyone does have new born twins they can message me... and we can find out who will have the highest chess rating in 20 years time.

We all accept that men are better than women at chess, but why should some of us men be better than other men who are also men? Is it because in college once I cooked a meal the way you're supposed to? It was just an experiment, I swear! I mean, I can't say I'm the manliest man who ever bench pressed my own weight in timber while eating nails, but I don't see how a guy who did a stint as a fashion model can be so much better at chess than I am.

there are many reasons why one person would be better at chess at a given time than another. sorry but gender is irrelevant here. it has nothing to do with gender, masculinity etc, false paradigm. chess requires a few things. first and foremost, stable, solid, mental ground. you can't be going through an emotional or nervous breakdown while playing good chess, this is impossible just as running a 3 minute mile with a sprained ankle is impossible. a degree of focus that is only really attainable in the right environment. if you are somewhere where you are horribly uncomfortable, around people who are incredibly hostile towards you, some hell-hole or another, you will not be able to play good chess. if you are say I don't know in the situation of someone in one of those "saw" movies, with some sadistic psychopath tormenting and torturing you in various effed up ways 24/7, you will not be able to play good chess. one or thing that can affect level of play is a persons motivation, motivation is directly linked to information. if one person has certain information that the other doesn't, they will be more motivated and thus their search level will be deeper and more stubborn as a result. understood? all seems rather obvious to me.

Ruby-Fischer

Some good points there, thinking about it, perhaps only twins with mentally stable parents should take part in my study. No psycopaths need apply.

Ruby-Fischer

Also, sorry but no lawyers.

theoreticalboy

omertato has found the reason; the men who are less good at chess are simply being tortured on a daily basis by a sadistic psychopath.  It's strange, because I made my original post right after my personal psychopath had just left, but I was never able to draw the link.

know some who would promise to study their ***'s off for the second option.

ps  wore me best George Sand suit yet still feel a little uneasy in here, giddy, but uneasy.

Why ? That is indeed a good Question ! Why was Henry Ford able to produce his Model T by the millions ? Why was Sir Edmund Hillary able to climb Mount Everest ? Why was Vincent van Gogh able to paint Masterpieces ? Why was Shakespeare able to write ? Why was Mozart able to create Music ? Yes WHY is indeed the Question ( however WHAT might the Answer be ??? ). Undecided

ivandh

42 maybe?

Ruby-Fischer

Splitleaf, I think your too old for my experiment.

Also, I think I might have been under the influence of alcohol when I wrote that post.. seems a long time ago.

Since the question is unsettled for two years now I shall give the ultimate answer:

Because some men have longer noses than others.

Is that what they call them now?

duck_and_cover

Who calls what how?

Ruby-Fischer

That could be a good forum topic, is the size of your nose related to IQ?

Ruby-Fischer

I dont think so, but then my nose is not big...    Smile

Conquistador

Lol.

This thread certainly seems necessary tonightLaughing

Laughing

At least it provides comic relief.

waffllemaster

Yes, thanks you Trysts :)

As for the brain size thing, this is a good place to bring it up I suspect.

If brain size means you're smarter, then we'd have seen it in testing men only and women only.  i.e. smarter boys and men would have larger brains than less smart boys and men.  However this is of course not the case.  And so the answer to:

Why are Men Better than Other Men?

is not that "other men" have larger brains Laughing

(common knowledge for some time is the # of neural connections is more important btw)
