i have been playing the 24 hour games for a while now and notice that most of my opponents are 1000 plus players mostly between say 950 to 1300 -- why is that?? why not have more 500 700 players playing these type of games is there a reason i am missing even under 500 is very rare why is that ???

Daily rating is entirely decoupled from live ratings. Players often start multitudes of games which end in timeouts, giving artificial boosts to their opponents' daily rating and massive decrements to their own. And cheating is allowed in daily.

cheating is allowed in 24 hour games ??????

hope not - i will be heartbroken -but still i will play it better than the other types of chess here

Wrong, @punchdrunkpatzer. Cheating isn’t allowed in daily games. You are only allowed to use chess books and opening databases. No engine analysis is allowed at all.

oh thats good i thought i was going to have to quit 24 hour games --mind you cheating isn't going to help my opponents they will win anyway they play--- i have never won a 24 game and don't to expect too -- but its nice to know i am being beaten badly by a real person's skill rather than a cpu -- thanks for the input

Essentially cheating. Any 200 rated live player can pull up a master level game in the database and run through 20 moves of theory in any opening in daily. It completely obfuscates the true strength of your opponent. You may as well be playing a master until the endgame.

Most of chess takes place during the middle game. The opening only lasts anywhere from 5-10 moves. People will play very well at the start of a daily game, but in the middle and endgames, their real strength shines through

Are you really allowed to use opening databases? Or even chess books? Looking up your opening while a game is in progress seems to me to be cheating. Anyone confirm?

Daily is all I play. I work all night, doctor appointments, cars to the mechanic, laundry, shopping during the day. I haven't the time for multiple games.

wow bro thought cheating was allowed in daily games

in any other format, consulting a Master database or opening book during play would be considered cheating. Using these resources cheapens the experience of competitive play and conceals the true strength of your play.

Somehow, removing the urgency of an actual time limit changes all this. Every 100-1000 rated daily player can whip out 24 move deep theory in some sideline of the Archangelsk played once in an obscure 1972 master game and no one bats an eye.

Pure absurdity. Daily rating is meaningless because of these resources.

NOW I REALLY FEEL DEPRESED

Probably because they're more likely to improve if they play longer time controls, so they don't stay at 500 or 700 very long.

starting to see a trend in these 24 hr. games but I have set my parameters lower now so I only get form say 350 to 800 maybe odd 1000 but much tighter variation once I go to only playing one game-- then I will open up the variation again
