Why are there so many on chess.com so obsessed with what ethnic group or gender someone is from?

There are a LOT of people in India so it makes sense that there are also a lot of chess players there.

For comparison:

Population of India is about 1 400 000 000.

Population of Finland (where I am from) is about 5 500 000.

So there are over 250 times more people in India compared to Finland...

I would be surprised if I saw as many Finnish players as there are players from India.

Please keep chess.com friendly and do not discriminate against ethnicity, nationality, or gender.

India has the highest population in the world right now, so naturally there are many chess players from India. Former World Champion "Vishy" Anand also brought a lot of popularity to chess in India and lastly, Chaturanga (game chess originated from) was invented in India.

chess.com has Chaturanga as a variant to play if anyone is interested:
