Ask the guy who posted when is a checkmate really a checkmate.

Barry_Helafonte2

do you mean uncastle ?

The_Ghostess_Lola

That calls for a thread title change. Thanx Barry !

What it all comes down to is that Uncastling is a arbitrary no-no w/ very little, if any, substance. Substance that I cannot find reason for.

And isn't chess just that ?....for minds that reason ?

Have I missed something ?

I'm sure glad FIDE straightened up the 2017 Rulebook about castling. That was totally confuzing in that if you moved just (1) of your castles, a case is made that you hence forfeit castling ALTOGETHER !

FIDE Rulebook partials....

****

9.2.2.2 (July 2014)

A King or Rook had castling rights, but forfeited these after moving.

9.2.2.2 (July 2017)

A King had castling rights with a Rook that has not been moved, but forfeited these after moving.

In January 2019, I will be submitting the document below requesting FIDE to assemble a formal committee to investigate the allowance of Uncastling on the eve of the 75th Anniversary of the birth of our FIDE.

I will be attempting to contact our past & current World top players & ask for their support. You know, those players who have had the greatest impact on our wonderful game. And FYI, I may be holding a public "you tube" seance, as we get closer to 01/19, to ask of Bobby Fischer for his support. As you probably could guess he, no doubt, would be in favor of this amendment !....and you know it too !

Now. I haven't chosen a tentative date for this spiritual gathering, but I am leaning toward the 23rd hour on Halloween Nite 2018 as it will offer the most material impact for soulsearch outreach....and it will be the proverbial Doozie !

If I am not mistaken. You are expecting a game like this:
Opening:You castle at the start.
Mid-Game: You sit and hold up in the castle
End-Game: You "uncastle" and rush forward into the arena of the EndGame...

No! If you lock yourself in a tower, board up the exit and so on. It will take some time to come out once the war is over.

And if by chance you want to imagine that this is a castle and you didn't board it up. Your king still has to armor up for battle.

Un-castling would be useless in the endgame, even counterproductive.

It can be handy to uncastle by a king attack on your king! To escape to the center.

Kaboom !....The king usually needs protection early on, but becomes a offensive asset as the game progresses, roght ? Uncastling could unleash your King's potential.

Whereas if you don't castle early on ?....you're rewarded by not wasting time needing to uncastle later in the endgame.

TY Ruben....Smile....!

Support is sooo welcome as I've been so visciously attacked at times by most on this needed change in chess rules.

The_Ghostess_Lola

What exactly does castling mean....literally ?

It means that the king is afforded protection within his merlons as the fight ensues. As the tactical phase begins to wane the king crosses his moat on a high white steed w/ two-handled sword in palm & control reigns in thee other.

Get it ?....Castle....then Uncastle.

Some a you ppl are still stuck in the 1900's. Bobby Fischer would poo-poo your stick-in-the-sand brain and declare the concept fascinating.

I know he would....and you know he would too !

Alreadygivenup

Because the castle has a key which is a one-time use only and self-destructs in exactly 15 seconds after the castle is closed. So the king is left with no other option but to stay inside the castle doors.Thats how the cookie crumbles in castling.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Well, he' so fat & scared (quivering like hairless chihuahua)  & sweat-oily & gasping for air that he probably couldn't even mount a shetland pony, let alone a 20-hand white stallion at the withers.

Maybe Uncastling should remain figurative.

did you smoke your chess set?!
