Why would u choose chess as your hobby? And how much time are you willing to spend on it in order to improve?

XOXOXOexpert

Because I am happy playing it.

Because as someone said "it's the discipline of mind". It develops your reasoning, cognition, organisational, administrative, leadership, logic, mathematical part, reading, memory... etc., with tens of etcs. Supposing you're '77., now it's best moment to skyrocket your game. Sufficiently mature where your mind could concentrate and lifetime satisfaction you could get. All relations with real-life from biggest to smallest you'll discover as you go. Find about history of the game, books, physical ones or e-versions to motivate you with how much passion through 1000's of years adepts of the game going through. Why so many material about it through space and time. How many models of dedicated chess computers, software about it. "The only thing chessplayers have in common is chess". It even helped one man to raise his iq from 150 to 190, anonymus (lets we hope to raise ours to 130).

Probably not for the same reason as other people. I play it purely for the social aspect. I like the banter, the conversation, the back and forth about what moves might be good and why play them.

Other people like the competition and the desire to win. Not me. I just want to play against someone who likes how the pieces move and likes the opponent.

that explains why ur last game on this site was 5 years ago and you are seen a lot on forums

Yes. I do not play here anymore, but I do still play a little bit online. It's just not the same. I like real people and real games.

The puzzles are my guilty pleasure though. They are sometimes really challenging.

It's frustrating, stressful and enough to question your intelligence if you are a lower level player.

I didn't choose chess, chess chose me

Like many people, I learned the rules of chess when I was a child, but I hardly ever played. Chess was just one of many board games and maybe I'd play chess once a year (if even that often), so many years later I wondered how good at chess I could actually become after a friend told me about chess.com happy.png

I didn't think I'd still be playing chess even a month later, but here I am over 6 years later and still playing! happy.png

As for time put into chess...it is a lot, but that is because it is a fun and challenging hobby. If I didn't enjoy chess, then I wouldn't put in the time and effort, but I don't need much motivation to play chess wink.png
