THey knew his chess and little about the man. True to the extent"How much do we know of any public figure"---we learn at MUG SHOT time ,or in their passing away. He played for quarters in the park and brought his winnings home so poor mom could through a chicken in the pot....non-sense he played at marshalls chess club and mostly lost as a teenager(this was the in crowd chess.....the best). He was a shy gangly teen and cared about nothing but chess.....and winning games.Once he got that chess down, just winning was not enough-----he like making them squirm. He delighted in the idea of Breaking their spirit. Why was he liked ? He was young, knew his stuff and american-whats not to like?
Why do Americans like Bobby Fischer?

Everyone has an opinion! To me, opinions are useless unless they can be supported by facts.
And then you quote Jung?! lol

Certifiable? Deranged? Yes.
But in his time he could look amazingly deep into a game. The shame is he didn't leave us more games.

That's correct! Who better than the brilliant Dr. Jung? It does shine a new light on Fischer's behavior. I read everything I can that's written by Dr. Jung.

Be serious...the guy was the mayor of Flake City.
Are you saying reading Jung got olde?
--- Oh Yes that is a plus 10 Batgirl, nearly fell off my chair there.

not sure Andy, looks like he wants to stick a piece in his opponent's face.
besides his name probly aint catchy, so might need a username
He beat a Russian during the cold war era and was popular for a while, but I don't think many Americans who are familiar with his anti-Semitism and pro-Nazi views admire him at all. Interesting that he was Jewish yet hated Jews! I think most who admire him only know of his chess skills and nothing about the man.
